About FBYC
Celebrating over three decades of friendship, boating, and life on Greers Ferry Lake.
Our History
Tuesday, November 8th, 1988 was an important date — not just for the National Elections, but for the formation of the Fairfield Bay Yacht Club, Inc. On October 4, 1988, Dick Owen called the organizational meeting to order in the Blue Room of the Country Club (now the Resort Offices of the Indian Hills Complex).
The proposed purpose of the club was simple: to encourage and promote greater use of members' boats, the marina facilities, and the beautiful waters of Greers Ferry Lake.
From those first 32 paid memberships at $10 per person per year, FBYC has grown into a vibrant community. The first year's events included a spring dinner, the Blessing of Boats at Sugarloaf Mountain Island, poker runs, starlight cruises, sunrise breakfasts, a fish fry, a color cruise, and the inaugural Commodore's Ball — traditions that continue to this day.
Tom Noll served as the first temporary Commodore, with Dick Owen nominated as the first official Commodore after the fourth meeting on November 8th, 1988.
